What if we made everything we used? Julia Hansen tells us about Fab Labs and Fab Cities

What if cities produced most of what their inhabitants consumed? It would mean Amazon would not be shipping a plastic gizmo from China, to New Jersey at huge environmental and social cost. What if we were more connected to the things we used and could walk down the street to a workshop to fix them when they broke? These are the questions that Julia Hansen is asking. She works at the Fab Lab at the Cambridge Innovation Center, and she tells us all about local fab labs and how they work, and they she looks at fab cities, and tells us how they might change our lives. Here is our conversation.
