Cities of Difference: Urban planners in today’s world

In our globalized world, cities are places where diverse cultures either meld or clash. How are we do deal with this diversity and difference, especially as urban planners? Julian Agyeman, professor of urban and environmental planning at Tufts University, walks us through the issues. He deploys the Just Sustainability framework as a way of understanding the world, and as a tool to help planning students hone their craft. He also considers the dual challenge of Becoming and Belonging, and he looks toward the upcoming mayor's race in Boston as a chance to re-narrate the city's story to something more reflective of 21st century realities.
